The Flute Academy is Pittsburgh's ONLY complete musical education and PREMIER program for flutists of all ages!

30 Years of Flute Pedagogy...

Wendy Webb Kumer, Director of the Flute Academy, is a highly successful flute teacher, performer, flute choir director, clinician, and master class artist. On the faculty at Duquesne University for more than 22 years, her students consistently win scholarships, awards, competitions, and placement into prestigious conservatories, universities, and colleges. Wendy was selected as the Director of the National High School Flute Choir in Washington, DC, and she has been an Artist/Clinician for the Selmer Corporation for the past 5 years.

Flute Choirs & Classes:

All Flute Academy classes, flute choirs, chamber music coachings, and piano lessons are held on Saturdays beginning after Labor Day and concluding by mid-June. A limited number of private flute lessons and piano lessons are available on Saturdays and throughout the week with one of the Flute Academy's trained professionals.

Students are encouraged to remain in their school music programs and are excused from Flute Academy classes for such school activities as football games, parades, competitions, PMEA events, etc.

Classes are held at First Trinity Lutheran Church in Oakland. Free Parking!

How to Apply!

The Flute Academy operates in two semesters (approx. 17 weeks): Fall and Spring. Check the calendar for start-up times for each class. Private piano and flute lessons are set up by each individual teacher.

1. Send an E-mail to Director Wendy Kumer and indicate which classes you would like to take.


2. Select your classes. Fill out the application form COMPLETELY. Be sure to include your EMAIL address and an ALTERNATE EMAIL address as well as a CELL PHONE number. If you would like to sign up for private lessons flute and/or piano, the INDEPENDENT teacher will contact you about times, tuition rates, policies and calendar information.

3. Mail in your application OR bring it with you September 17, 2011. Applications received before August 31st will receive a $10 discount. For the Winter term, the deadline for the $10 discount is December 11, 2011. Mail checks to:
